An easier way to subtract from the numbers like 100, 1000, 10000 ... is ... Subtract the Last Digit from 10 & Subtract the rest of the digits from 9 ...
Example1: 10000 - 7368 = (9-7) (9-3) (9-6) (10-8) = 2 6 3 2 ..
Example 2: 50000 - 2754 ... If the first digit is anything other than 1, Follow the same as above (Subtract the Last Digit from 10 & Subtract the rest of the digits from 9) and Simply subtract 1 from the first digit ... (5-1) (9-2) (9-7) (9-5) (10-4) = 4 7 2 4 6.
Example 3: 7 - 0.1832 ... Here, write 7 as 7.0000 and rest everything is same as Example 2... (7-1) (9-1) (9-8) (9-3) (10-2) = 6.8168.
Example 4: 57 - 3.243... ((57 -3) -1) (9-2) (9-4) (10-3) = 53.757 ... :-)
Example 5: 96 - 0.2198 = (96-1) (9-2) (9-1) (9-9) (10-8) = 95.7802
All that you read above is the Vedic method of Subtraction which is based on the sutra - "Nikhilam Navataha : Charamum Dashataha" which means "Subtract all from 9 and the last digit from 10" ... Happy Learning! .. :)
